Boogie Men please area
crowds for more than a decade
Since their humble beginnings in August, 1998, the Boogie Men have
provided “Classic Rock with a Twist.” to appreciative area audiences.
Their unique choice of material includes oldies, dance tunes, high energy
rockers, Latin, blues, and even a few standards stretching back to the
1940’s.
The Boogie Men bring a free-wheeling, family-friendly vibe to each show,
whether it's a dance, festival, wedding, private party, or some other
memory-making event. Their level of musicianship and humor is a true
crowd-pleaser.
The Boogie Men are: Martin Hernandez, lead vocals and percussion; Mark
Tannehill, drums and vocals; Tom Hutchinson, bass and vocals; Rick Piechnik,
sax, flute, harmonica, percussion and vocals; Charlie Marks, guitar and
vocals; and Bob Long, keyboards and vocals.
Martin Hernandez –
The lead voice of the Boogie Men is the source of the unique Latin flavor of
the band. Martin’s voice can be heard on all the Santana classics that
the Boogie Men perform, from “Black Magic Woman” to “Smooth.” In
addition, his frenzied conga playing adds blasts of energy to each Boogie
Men performance. Martin’s second love is southern rock and roll, which
is also a prominent part of the Boogie Men sound.
Mark Tannehill –
Mark approaches playing the drums in a way that adds to the color, texture,
and excitement of every song. His nickname is “Fuzzy,” but there’s
nothing fuzzy about his percussive instincts. He’s in time – on time –
all the time.
Tom Hutchinson – Tom’s rock solid bass playing anchors the band, and his affable personality provides a counterpoint to the outrageous levity that occurs on and off stage. Tom's
unique vocal stylings can be heard on a number of tunes: “Donna,” “Crazy Little Thing Called
Love,” and “You May Be Right,” to name a few.
Charlie Marks -- Charlie is the guitarist and resident “Seinfeld” of the band. With humor dryer than dry ice and a twinkle in his eye, Charlie knows how to have fun.
Charlie’s playing is fluid and accomplished in a wide range of musical
styles.
Rick Piechnik –
Rick plays sax, flute, harmonica, and various percussion instruments.
He is also known to blow a referee’s whistle when other band members need a
time-out. Rick’s multi-instrumental talents add another dimension to
the band.
Bob Long – Bob
enjoys a broad range of influences from bubblegum to Bach, and sprinkles his
influences liberally in his playing. As keyboardist he provides color and
texture to the Boogie Men sound.
